Statiemonnie Stage playfully introduces children to deposit money
After the successful trial during Carnival, Statiegeld Nederland, part of Verpact, is taking the next step in collection during peak events. Thus, during the King's Day weekend from Friday to Sunday, eight mobile bulk machines will be set up at busy locations in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Eindhoven. A bulk machine can process more than 100 deposit packages at once. This makes it easy for revelers to properly return their bottles and cans. At the same time, the Netherlands is turning orange with the introduction of the Statiemonnie Stage: a colorful rug that children can use at the free market as their own stage. In exchange for empty deposit bottles and cans, they can perform and playfully contribute to a cleaner city.

Placement of mobile bulk machines proves effective
Koningsdag is one of the biggest annual holidays in the Netherlands. Numerous activities take place across the country, including free markets, festivities and celebrations during Koningsnacht. During Carnival, it turned out that revelers knew how to find the mobile bulk machines. For that reason, Deposit Money Netherlands is now continuing with extra deployment during peak events.
During King's Day, for example, eight mobile bulk machines will be placed in various inner cities. Since Amsterdam attracts some 1 million visitors, even five machines will be placed here along with four more mobile drop-in machines such as a trailer converted into drop-in points in the Vondelpark and on the Bredeweg. There will also be additional drop-in machines at the Albert Heiin Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal and donation bins in Westerpark. In Utrecht there will be two mobile bulk machines and after the success of the machine in Eindhoven during Carnival, another one will be placed here during Koningsdag. After handing in bottles and cans in the machine, the money can be paid out digitally through a Tikkie or donated to a local charity.
Jeroen Hillen, director of Deposit Money Netherlands, says: "By deploying mobile bulk machines during Kings Day, we offer a practical solution at busy locations where a lot of packaging is used. We do this in cooperation with municipalities and local partners, thus contributing to a cleaner city and at the same time relieving supermarkets in the immediate vicinity. The good experiences during Carnival have shown that temporary placements are effective and contribute to the awareness of deposits. Moreover, initiatives such as the Statiemonnie Stage make the system accessible to both young and old."
Statiemonnie Stage: deposit money becomes stage money
To involve children in a playful way with deposit money, Statiegeld Nederland introduces the Statiemonnie Stage: a special rug that transforms a spot at the free market into a personal stage. Children can perform here, think of magic, singing or dancing, and ask for empty deposit packaging as a reward. The initiative increases the visibility of deposits on the street and contributes to less litter.
