First hotel chain to install deposit machines: 'Where your bottle or can goes'
At the Horecava, the expansion of the cooperation between hotel chain Van der Valk Exclusive and Verpact was celebrated. Van der Valk has been separating packaging waste via Afval Goed Geregeld from Verpact for some time and is now the first hotel chain to also become a collection point for deposit packaging. The unveiling of the personalized deposit machine with the iconic beak accompanied by the slogan 'Where your bottle or can goes' is striking. With this, Van der Valk and Verpact are taking the next step in recycling as much packaging as possible back into raw material for new packaging.
At the Horecava, Verpact aims to recruit hospitality companies as collection points for deposit packaging and separating packaging waste through Afval Goed Geregeld. With these free services, Verpact offers an easy way to collect deposit packaging, separated beverage cartons, glasses and plastic packaging. Verpact takes care of the costs and arranges placement, maintenance, collection service and recycling. Currently, over 35,000 companies, schools and organizations already work with Afval Goed Geregeld and there are 5,171 paying deposit locations. Verpact's booth (booth no. 01.376) can still be visited today. For more information visit: www.verpact.nl

Next step towards a circular economy for packaging
Hotel chain Van der Valk has been working with Verpact since 2023, participating in the Afval Goed Geregeld initiative to further improve separation of packaging waste so that it can be recycled into new raw materials. For example, separated beverage cartons, plastic packaging and glass are collected free of charge from the various hotels throughout the country to be recycled. Van der Valk not only sees the positive impact of this, it also provides cost savings in addition to environmental gains.
Marcus van der Valk, director at Van der Valk Exclusive says: "By also becoming a deposit collection point, we take a logical step to further contribute to a circular economy. It fits nicely with our sustainability goals and we offer our guests convenience because they can now also get their deposit back from us. I hope this addition will be positively received by our guests." Delegated for the press event was from Van Der Valk, general manager.
Hester Klein Lankhorst, Chairman of the Board Verpact adds: "I am very pleased that Van der Valk will also become a collection point for deposit packaging. Easy for the guests and a great example for other hotels. We can really use extra collection points to collect even more deposit packaging. As Afval Goed Geregeld participant from the very beginning, the hotel chain is a great example of an organization that deals sustainably with packaging waste and thus contributes to the circular economy."
"Hotels generate a large volume of packaging waste every day. By separating this properly and collecting deposit packaging, they can directly help reduce the amount of waste and ensure that this packaging finds its proper path to recycling. We hope their positive example inspires other hospitality operators, prompting them to take the same sustainable steps and sign up for a deposit machine and Waste Well Regulated. "

About Verpact
Verpact ensures that packaging in the Netherlands - after use - is collected, recycled and reused in a smart and efficient way, including through the deposit system. This implements the legally regulated producer responsibility for packaging. Verpact plays a central role in making the packaging chain circular, with the ideal being that every old packaging becomes new packaging. This preserves valuable raw materials in the chain, reduces litter and microplastics and limits the impact of packaging on the environment.
Part of Verpact include:
- Supporter of Clean, to prevent and address litter and encourage the use of reusable packaging
- Sustainable Packaging Knowledge Institute (KIDV), which helps companies make sustainable, informed packaging choices
- Deposit Money Netherlands, for an efficient and effective implementation of the deposit system
- Waste Well Arranged, for an efficient and sustainable approach to waste separation and disposal.
